Baby Beanies – The Craziest Toys!
Baby beanies have been in the market only since 1994. It was first introduced by Ty Warner. Very few people know that this baby beanie which is more commonly referred to as beanie baby was an idea of Ty Warner. By putting in more air the baby beanie was made to look like it had more life in it. It had very less stuffing within it. The normal baby toys have lots of stuffing and are very stiff. These toys which were introduced by Ty Warner had stuffing as well as were filled with little beans. Hence the name beanie baby is used. Many of the competitors had much faith that his toy would not last very long in the market. But, as you can see many of them were not right at all.
The ‘original nine’ are the first few baby beanies that were made by Ty Warner. Actually they were the first nine that were made by him. Patti the platypus, spot the dog, cubbie the bear, squealer the pig, pinchers the lobster, legs the frog, chocolate the moose, flash the dolphin and splash the killer whale are the nine baby beanies. Collectors of these toys have dubbed them as they were available only at $5.00 each and they were the first beanie babies. A short poem comes along with each of these beanie babies when they are first introduced to toddlers. This was put down on a tag which is heart shaped and is attached to the ear of the animal.
No one knows how many beanie babies are in existence today. The most popular among these baby beanies is the teddy bear. Different colors were used on the same basic pattern to create a family of them. Names were also given to each of them to go on with the tradition. There are also some beanies which have been made for commemorative purposes.
However, the official beanie babies were mostly only animals. They were most often pigs, dogs, cats or hippopotamuses. There are many a times colored brightly to make it look pleasing to the eye. Names are one thing that always comes with these toys. All of them also have their own date of births. The most important of all is the fact that it comes along with a poem each.
The craze for these beanies began in 1996. As there were many who were collecting these toys, it make Ty Warner even retire a few of his toys to hype the sales. Many of them bought these toys in wholesale. However this fad of baby beanie craze sizzled out after a while.
In spite of all this, the baby beanies are still available. However, many children do prefer soft toys as they are easy to hold as well as hug gable. Beanie babies also show the kind of personality of the child who owns them.

Squealer the pig, Cubbie the bear, Chocolate the moose, Flash the dolphin, Legs the frog, Pinchers the lobster, Patti the platypus and Splash the killer whale were amongst the first nice official baby beanies. There are many collectors who have the entire set and initially the baby beanies were sold at just $5.00 a piece. Each baby beanie has a heart shaped tag on its ear, which contains a small poem that will help introduce itself to its new friend.
Since then there have been many new lines that developed in order to expand the baby beanie family so the number of beanies existing currently is not exactly known. The most famous beanie amongst the others was the traditional teddy bear. Its basic pattern was retained and just different colours were changed in order to make a new family. In addition to that each of these teddies were given a unique name. These beanies are usually used for commemoratives like on the fourth of July. The Princess of Whales is also a commemorative collectors item.
Initially the baby beanies were shaped like animals. The famous dogs, cats, hippopotamuses and pigs were the most common ones. They were designed and colored to please the eye. Each one of it had its date of birth and most importantly they all had the short poem.
A frenzied collection of the baby beanies started in the year 1996 and it became a sudden craze. As a result of this Ty Warner took away some of the old baby beanies from the market. This helped him tremendously in the marketing and sales side of his products since many people bought the baby beanies in wholesale assuming that future value of the baby beanies to be high. However, like all other fads that drop as fast as they rise this too was forgotten and the investors who got them on wholesale did not achieve what they expected.
But in spite of the fact that the fad died down long ago the baby beanies still continue to live as all babies love soft toys, which they can easily bite, have a grip on and cuddle, and baby beanies have proved to be the ideal thing for this. When people buy baby beanies they don’t necessarily buy them all from the same family since they can be appreciated even otherwise. It is said that a large collection of baby beanies can tell the kind of personality that the baby or the giver of these cuddly toys have.
Baby: Baby Beanies – the Baby Toy of All Time?

But exactly the opposite is what happened!

Each baby beanie comes with a short poem to introduce it to the toddler. This was written on a red heart-shaped tag that is attached by the animal’s ear.

The baby beanie crazed happened in the late 1996 when a frenzied collection of baby beanies started. This prompted Ty Warner to retire some of the baby beanies to hype up even more the sales and marketing side of his products. There were people who bought wholesale in anticipation of the possible future value of a single baby beanie. However, as with other fads that easily rise and can be easily forgotten, the baby beanie craze was just another fad that quickly fizzled. Or what the expectation of those “investors” did not materialize at all.
In spite of what happened, baby beanies are here to stay since babies usually prefer soft toys that they can easily hug and bite and hold easily in their hand. Baby beanies need not be in the same family of baby beanies to be appreciated. A collection of baby beanies show the kind of personality the baby has or it speaks the kind of personality the giver has.
